Milestones of Our Empirical Research!

Report on Our Fourth Plenary Meeting

As part of the fourth team day of our DFG project, we were able to compile and discuss key results of our empirical research! On 2–3 September 2026, the entire research team met for this purpose at Goethe University in Frankfurt.

The focus was particularly on the first milestones of sub-projects 2 and 3. Their project researchers Lisa Quirin (TP 2) and Leonie Uliczka (TP 3) had conducted a series of expert interviews in recent months with relevant recruitment actors in Germany (TP 2) and Mexico (TP 3).
After initial intensive analyses of these qualitative interviews, we gained valuable insights both for the individual sub-projects and for our overall research context. In particular, the elaboration of concrete process knowledge and the normative problematizations articulated by the interviewees provide excellent points of connection for our further ethical work.

We gained a first outlook on this through the presentation by Moritz Broghammer (TP 1). Building on the already completed discourse analysis of international regulatory efforts, he presented initial theses for an ethical typology and evaluation. In doing so, he inquired into the subject matter and scope of international regulation.

Beyond these stimulating substantive contributions and discussions, we also addressed initial organizational considerations for our upcoming policy workshop. At the end of next year, ethically grounded recommendations for action addressed to the various relevant actors are to be presented and opened for debate there. We will provide further information about this workshop on our website in the coming month.

We now look forward to elaborating the results discussed in more detail and jointly taking the next steps in our project!
